ABOUT THE ARTIST

Marji Ingersoll studied art at the Kuntschule West Institute in Frankfurt, Germany. Returning from Europe, she moved to Santa Barbara, taking art classes while exhibiting on Sundays at the Santa Barbara Beach Art Show.

In January, 1991, she opened her tile design/studio gallery in the Carriage Shed in downtown Gualala, where she produces custom tile murals.

Her commissions include tile murals for patio walls, window seats, fireplaces, entry ways, tables, gardens, kitchens and baths. Her wrought iron tables are made to her specifications by Lavezzo Designs.

In 1997 she co-founded/directed the Gualala Arts' North Coast Artists' Guild. In 1998, she organized/directed the Gualala Arts' Studio Discovery Tour and served as Tour Consultant in 1999-2001, 2003; and Tour Director in 2002.

In 2002-2003, she taught 2nd-5th grade students at Point Arena and Manchester Elementary Schools, completing 6 tile murals under the Art-in-the-Schools program.

Memberships include: Tile Heritage Foundation, Gualala Arts Center

Board member: Gualala Arts' North Coast Artists' Guild

She lives with her husband in the cabin they built in the forest on the Sonoma Coast.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

"I use tiles as a canvas and paint on them for their rich colors and durability. I enjoy working with people and producing tiles that will last a lifetime. I'm always experimenting with new glazes and paints and designs. My studio has a river/ocean view and inspires my inner tidal designs on wrought iron table tops."

ABOUT HER MURALS

She uses a mixture of low-fire underglazes and glazes to achieve the rich color. She uses both commercial and her own hand-made tiles. Tile murals can be purchased framed or unframed.
